The Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) and other local agencies have prepared an updated draft of our Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (MJHMP). This plan will play a critical role in helping our community learn about and prepare for future emergencies, building a safer future for everyone. The MJHMP covers four main sections:
- A summary of natural and human-caused hazards that pose a threat to our community
- An assessment of how our agency, community members, buildings, and infrastructure are vulnerable to these hazards
- An outline of a hazard mitigation strategy, which lays out specific policy recommendations to carry out over the next five years
- Maintenance procedures for the plan, ensuring it remains current in the face of changing conditions
The MJHMP will make OC San eligible for grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that can be used to further improve safety and preparedness in the community. The MJHMP is planned to be adopted in Winter 2025 following approval from the California Office of Emergency Services and FEMA.
